10 New Wedding Trends to Watch Out for in 2019

One of the wonderful things about wedding trends is that they’re constantly changing. Every year we see new decor ideas, fashions, and formats. However, it’s rare that a new trend will completely replace an older one – when it comes to weddings, almost anything goes, depending on the couple’s taste and style. That’s why there’s no need to be 100% on-trend; rather, you can pick the elements that you like and combine them with wedding trends of the past or older traditions, creating a day that is uniquely ‘you’.

Read on to find out more about the wedding trends that the world’s top planners are seeing everywhere in 2019.

1. Set the mood

Step aside pretty pastels, dark and moody wedding colours are the latest must-have look. Colour palettes have gone mysterious and deep with colours like black, midnight blue, forest green, burgundy and plum purple; a bold transition from the pastel palettes that have been gracing weddings for the last few years. Couples are embracing this edgier look through decor, stationery and wedding attire. Ready to bring out your dark side?

2. State your cake!

Cakes of 2019 are bold and set to make a statement with stand-out tiers. This trend is a broad one, but essentially it’s about creating a cake with one tier that is different from the rest – it could be decked out on your wedding colours, given a metallic sheen, set with sparkles, or perhaps it’s not even a cake at all?

3. Royal arrangements

Yes, we know, the royal wedding has come and gone (and now there’s even a baby!), but the flowers from Meghan and Harry’s Big Day are still totally swoon-worthy. The green and white florals were elegant and abundant, a trend we’re still enjoying in 2019. Instead of being contained in bunches, the flowers and greenery were hung from high to create a spectacular backdrop; one that is certainly wedding trend worthy!

4. The circle of life

Trending in 2019 is the idea of seating your guests in a circle around the couple during the ceremony, bringing them into the sense of oneness and eternity. Circular seating during the ceremony works especially well for more intimate weddings and outdoor settings where the seats can be arranged to your liking.

5. Ballooning trend

Balloons are back in a big way! Big letter balloons spelling your names, initials, or words like ‘Love’ can make a beautiful background for a photo.

6. Crush it with velvet

Velvet is making suave moves in the interior design world and is also coming in swaths to weddings in 2019. Think luscious velvet in jewel-tone hues for bridesmaids’ dresses, groom attire, your wedding dress, table runners, ribbons, shoes and more.

7. Out and about in style

Outdoor weddings are still trending in 2019 – so much so that the latest trends involve making outdoor spaces feel as comfortable and as elegant as possible. Instead of ‘bringing the outside in’, 2019 weddings are ‘bringing the inside out’ with indoor pieces like couches and dining tables make an appearance in the great outdoors.

8. Beauty in simplicity

The minimalist wedding look is cool, clean and very 2019. This modern look is a major interior design style that has made its way to the wedding sphere.

Top tips for minimalist wedding decor:

  • Use a simple colour palette with two or three colours
  • Focus on clean lines
  • Use florals with more architectural shapes
  • Incorporate natural elements like stone, wood tones and marble.

9. Keep it personal

Thank your guests for being part of your special day with a personalised place setting note. Remind them of a special memory you’ve shared, thank them for what they’ve done in the build-up to the big day or make them giggle with a private joke. Your guests will appreciate the effort you’ve gone to in writing them a personal message.

10. Light up the room

Lighting sets the mood for your wedding, enhances the atmosphere and helps create focal areas. This is a trend that will never go out of style!

One of our favourite aspects of our decor at Harrington House is our 25 specially-made blown-out lights. With an array of beautiful glass shapes and exposed bulbs, they are a feature all in themselves. Pictures can’t quite capture the mood these lights create, so please give us a shout if you’d like to see our venue in person; we’d love to show you around!
