5 Tips to Help You Choose Your Perfect Wedding Venue

Got the guy or girl? Tick! Engagement commitment? Hooray and yay! Now… where to wed?

Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest and most important decisions you’ll make in the build-up to your Big Day. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful list of top tips to help you choose the ideal wedding venue for you as a couple.

1. Enlist some expert assistance

If you’ll be using a wedding planner, get their help from the get-go. They will be familiar with a wide range of venues and can listen to your wants and needs (and budget!) to help you refine your search, and prevent you from wasting time by visiting and enquiring with unsuitable venues. If you aren’t using a professional planner, it’s still worth discussing your wedding venue wants with family and friends who can give you advice and recommendations based on their experiences at different wedding venues.

2. Get your guest list together

Whether you plan on having 30 guests or 300 will have a significant impact on your wedding venue options. Different venues come with different capacity, so coming up with an estimated number of guests is one of the first places to start as it will limit your list of suitable venues.

If you plan on having a smaller wedding, you’ll want to look for a venue with more intimate spaces; and if your numbers are large, you’ll want to make sure that the venue can seat and feed a large party.

3. It all boils down to budget

Your budget is another important factor to take into consideration as you start your venue search. There can be vast differences in the venue hire and other costs of the wedding venues you’re comparing. Some wedding venues, like Harrington House, can offer different packages and plans based on budget, so be sure to enquire about the available options.

When comparing wedding venue costs, remember to look at what’s included and what isn’t. For example, what you think is a more expensive venue may come with all the chairs, tables, tableware etc. It may turn out, however, that to hire all these items makes a “cheaper” venue more expensive with all costs considered.

4. Consider your guests’ experience

Keeping your guests comfortable will ensure a better wedding experience for all. For example, if you plan on having a long ceremony, choose a ceremony venue where guests can sit comfortably and take it all in. If you’re getting married in the middle of winter, an outdoor reception may need heaters and fires to keep everyone warm and toasty.

Along with giving your guests a pleasant experience, you may also want to surprise them with something unique, like getting married outside under our oak tree with magic, whimsical lighting, or getting married in a brand new, modern and stylishly-appointed reception venue.

5. Stay true to yourselves

Last, but certainly not least, your wedding day should be all about you as a couple, so stay true to what you love and enjoy. Are you a more glitzy and glam couple? Or do you prefer the simpler things or the outdoors? The last thing you want is to find yourself on the third storey of a hotel building when you’d far prefer to be dancing under the trees…

One of the benefits of Harrington House is the range of spaces on offer – the expansive, landscaped lawns, the special spot underneath our Magical Faraway Tree, stylish dining and dancing area, bespoke bar area and patio overlooking quintessential Midlands scenery.
