Gin Is In! Here are Some Fun Ideas for BrinGINg it into Your Wedding

Step aside, champagne! There’s a new wedding drink in town – gin in all colours, tastes and flavours is taking over the wedding scene, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

In Durban alone, gin-drinking tripled in 2018, as the volume of imported gin went up from 60 403 litres in May 2017 to 166 190 litres in May 2018.

If you’re a gin-loving couple, we’ve put together a list of unique ways to incorporate your favourite juniper drink into your wedding day celebrations.

Seat them at ‘Six Dogs’

Have some fun with your seating plan by naming each table after one of your favourite gins, like ‘Six Dogs’ or ‘Musgrave Pink Gin’. You could take the theme even further by using the corresponding gin bottles as beautiful centrepieces – read on for more ideas…

Make the most of beautiful bottles

Craft gins are known for their gorgeous and unique bottle designs, making them perfect as table decorations. Use them as candle holders, flower vases, vessels for reed diffusers or greenery, etc. And hey, it also gives you a great excuse to enjoy plenty of gin in the build-up to your wedding!

Gin-tails

A good ol’ G&T will always be a winner, but why not try serving some other gin cocktails for something different? You can even include cocktails to match your colour theme!

DIY Gin bar

If you’d rather let your guests enjoy their gin their own way, you can set up a DIY gin bar where guests can mix their own drinks and add in their favourite flavours. Set up a DIY drinks trolley with:

  • Different types and flavours of gin
  • Different types of tonic and mixers
  • Garnishes
  • Herbs
  • Fruit.

DIY gin!

If you’re feeling crafty yourself, why not create your own wedding gin? Just buy a standard gin and infuse it yourself before the wedding, and keeping your wedding décor colours in mind.

Here’s how: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/how-make-flavoured-gin

Gin wedding cake

A wedding cake infused with the delicious flavours of juniper? Where do we sign up? You can get really creative with a gin-themed cake, infusing different flavour combinations into the sponge and the icing – like pink gin and lemonade, elderflower and juniper, lemon and mint … have fun testing, and tasting!

Welcome wedding favours

Some of your favourite gin bottles come in minis, which make perfect wedding favours! They can also double-up as place names – simply tie on a little label with the guest’s name.

Mobile gin bar

Perfect for outdoor canapes, a mobile gin bar is a fun way for guests to get their gin in! As the gin trend has taken off, so has the mobile ‘gin truck’. You can have them pull in for a few hours, or stay for the entire time.

For a local Midlands’ supplier, try the Country Co’s Caravan Bar.

Curate your collection

We say that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with putting a few bottles of gins you’ve been dying to try on your wedding registry! After all, your collection has been somewhat depleted for the sake of the wedding décor …

Yuppiechef has a great selection of both local and imported gin as well as gin-ccesories like gin kits, gin glasses, ice moulds and more.

A locally-made liquor

The home of craft beer in South Africa, The Nottingham Road Brewing Company, now also makes its own Rawdons Gin in four different flavours. Be sure to pop in for a taster when you’re in the Midlands area, or visiting your venue.

On that note…

Our Harrington House grounds and bar are perfect for gin-lovers to enjoy sipping on their favourite selection. Set up a mobile gin bar on the rolling lawns, create a DIY gin bar on our large verandah overlooking the farmlands, or serve sophisticated gin cocktails from our custom-made bar.Get in touch to pop in for a visit to see the venue (and enjoy a gin on us!): https://www.harringtonhouse.co.za/contact/.
