What food do you want your Wedding Caterer to do for you? Conjure a magical feast, or keep food simple? Either way, food plays an integral part of any wedding. We look at some questions you can ask your Wedding Caterer and get the inside track.
We chat to Tamarin Wynn of Nourish Seasonal Food about food preparation for weddings.
How did you get into meal preparation for weddings?
My food is all about family and the enjoyment of a delicious meal shared with those you love most. Wedding catering obviously ticks all those boxes! It is such a privilege to be apart of a couples’ special day. I try my best to provide a bespoke service to my clients and am willing to source anything they have set their hearts on.
How long have you been in catering for weddings?
I have only been doing wedding catering for 2 years, prior to that I did more Private Dining Experiences. I worked with a fellow caterer on a wedding a few years ago and was hooked!
What is your favourite meal to prepare?
I absolutely love Family Style Food Service; large platters are brought to the tables and people dish and pass to each other, it’s so lovely seeing people connecting and enjoying food together. I lean more towards Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavours. My favourite chef is Yotam Ottolenghi.
What is your favourite event to cater for?
To be honest I love them all! I guess special Birthdays or Anniversaries are lovely.
How long in advance do you recommend the bridal couple should contact the caterer to book for a wedding?
At least 6 months in advance. Some popular caterers need up to a year!
What would be your top advice to brides when planning with their Caterer?
Tell them your budget upfront, it really helps them to put forward a realistic quote for you. It’s amazing what we cooks can do even with a modest budget!
Do you sign a contract with the client?
Yes, I do. It protects both parties and helps everyone to know what is expected of them, and helps avoid disappointment.
Can you share a moment from one of your weddings you catered that was special for you?
So my special moment has nothing to do with food!
I like to pop out of the kitchen to see the bride arrive and then look at the groom’s expression when he first sees her!
